The Vimercate activated sludge treatment plant was built to treat the urban wastewater of the North-West area of Vimercate and serves the sewerage of the following municipalities: Vimercate, Burago di Molgora, Aicurzio, Sulbiate, Bernareggio, Bellusco, Usmate/Velate, Carnate and Ronco Briantino.
This is a biological activated sludge plant with a tertiary biological biofiltration treatment for an advanced nitrogen removal and reintroduction of purified water into the Molgora Torrent.
The plant has a planned capacity of over an equivalent population of 100,000 and is authorised in a size class included between an equivalent population of 50,000 and 100,000.
During 2019, a major revamping of the air production and diffusion sections was carried out to increase the efficiency of the biological treatment and biofiltration processes of the sewage. As in the case of Monza, the plant is fully tele-controlled.
